September 29 Community Dinner Feedback

At our recent PACT Community Dinner, we gave out a questionnaire at the end. The over 70 people there (mostly SBHS students, which was fantastic) were great about giving feedback on the questionnaire. I wanted to share that feedback here, and then I welcome feedback on ways we might address some of the issues raised. Thanks! ~ Susie Merrick, PACT Co-Chair

PACT Community Dinner
September 29, 2011

What worked for you about this event?
It was great to be here amongst all of these wonderful young people.
Very inviting!
Everything. The food.
Passing the mike around and hearing the ideas of a bunch of different people and comparing them to our table’s discussion.
Everything!
The relaxed group – mix of parents, teens. The food.
I liked interacting with other teens and new community members and sharing our ideas. Also the cake and delicious foods were awesome!
I enjoyed talking to the other people at my table, and though I already knew the people, I got to know about what they’re up to in high school.
Good time – right after work, dinner, encouraging interaction between teens and adults.
Great time (5:30) to do this. Connection to others was wonderful.
The food.
Hearing positive things about kids!
The environment was friendly and welcoming.
Dinner and dessert. I liked hearing from everyone! Good speakers.
Loved hearing from everyone.
Inviting community, open, good food.
Lots of good food, lots of people! The go-around at the end when everyone shared was great!
I enjoyed talking to people about topics that wouldn’t be brought up in a normal conversation.
I enjoyed how easy it was to have a discussion in our group and how much it evolved.
I enjoyed the discussions.
I liked the openness of the event; people could just walk in.
Time and ideas are good.
The small groups and specific topics.
Topics, discussion. Small group dialogue leads to great discussion.
The best thing is the candid dialogue between teens and parents in an atmosphere that promotes open discussion.
Learned a lot about what teens are doing in our community.
Learned a lot about PACT and what they are doing for the community.
Great food and great friends – old and new.
Dinner was great; loved being a student greeter.
I think the guided discussions are a great way to get “strangers” talking. Really good food.
Food, atmosphere, meeting and talking with the students.
Delicious dinner, conversation with people who aren’t going to judge you.
People had shared a great deal of inspiring points of view.
Good teens and adults.
I enjoyed talking out our ideas in a comfortable environment.
The community feel, the discussion.
It was informative.
It was great brainstorming! Great to hear accomplishments.
The opportunity to see teens taking the lead and reaching out and WANTING to talk.
I really loved hearing everyone’s ideas and everybody’s opinions. It helped us understand one another better.

What didn’t work as well for you about this event?
We had quite a few teens, and one adult.
The heat in the room… :>( Also sad that there weren’t more adults.
Maybe get the word out a little more – Bigger input on website?
The space we were in.
Maybe have more involved and interesting topics discussed.
Lack of adults.
Many people strayed off topic. But that may not be a bad thing.
Nothing!
Nothing, really enjoyed it.
The event went really well. :>)
Room was hot.
Would have liked the discussion session to be slightly longer.
Instead of separate tables, find a venue that can incorporate everyone.
We didn’t have enough time to finish our conversation.
I felt it went really well.
I wish there were a few more adults at our table.
I wish more people came to PACT because it’s fun with more people to discuss with.
We didn’t have a variety of people.
Some tables had only teens and no adults.
Not enough adults for all the tables!
Unequal distribution between teens and adults.
We wrapped up the discussion a little bit too soon.
Nothing.
Wish more community members were here to celebrate our amazing teens.
It’s such a good turnout that we’ll need a bigger location!
Honestly, not really anything!!!
Air – a little stuffy.
Nothing.
I would have liked to rotate around to a bunch of tables to have discussions with more groups.
Nothing.
Maybe the tables could have been done banquet style.
Too squished and warm.

What other topics would you like to see discussed at PACT events?
Ways to reach out to more community members (elderly and those in our community who may not feel comfortable coming here)
Maybe other events PACT could host?
The topics have all been good.
Cool things adults are doing, too
Love the game night idea. Brainstorm things teens can do with parents.
Ways to deal with stress. Ways to interact with parents and teens that are enjoyable.
Really, basically just anything about topics that are inspiring to other people.
Voices of teens – stresses, challenges, what helps success, etc.
A lot about the kids.
More opportunities for teens to do good things in our community.
Concerns about the world, helping others.
Teen perspective on worldwide issues and a continuation of the stress event held last year.
How to solve the negative message towards teens.
What actions are we going to take this year.
I would like to discuss stress again.
Maybe topics that teens discuss away from adults, i.e., drugs, pressure, grades, etc., and how to make effectual the issues discussed.
How much our school district provides for us.
How to continue to support teens in a manner that promotes their own abilities and allows for them to reach success on their own merits.
Community resources available to teens.
What they would like to do in the future for other events.
Celebrating diversity in Vermont.
More Dialogue Nights talking about issues teens feel are relevant.
Stress, college.
Culture variety.
The community as a whole, other educational programs.
The future.
How to deal with stress.
About the adults in the community. Children in the community. Focus on one community service project.
World events. Coordinate on a community event.
Celebrate firefighters/EMTs/police officers.
How students can tutor grown-ups and vice versa.
We should talk about our own lives and always more thoughts and ideas.

Additional Thoughts:
The food was amazing! ☺
I treasure these events because we are so scattered as a community, all in our different worlds, different ages. This brings us all together. Thank you, Susie and Steve!
The fun. The food.
PACT seems very interesting and a helpful way to get connected with other members of the community.
Great!
Great dinner!
Thanks for the info and good meal.
While our conversation left the topics, it was great stuff.
I go to SB and I never really hear about this group in school – maybe it could be announced more often.
Perhaps coordinate a community project.
Great discussions, great food, great evening!
Last time we switched up tables halfway through – that was good to promote more discussion.
Great stuff going on with this organization.
